Luke Varney yesterday suffered relegation torment with Blackpool after a memorable first-ever season in the Premier League for the Lancashire club.
Derby's 28-year-old forward joined Ian Holloway's side on a season-long loan back in August after finding himself on the fringes of Nigel Clough's starting XI.
He made an immediate impact with a goal on his debut against Fulham, and he ended the season with five goals from 30 appearances for the Seasiders.
He came off the bench for the final 15 minutes of yesterday's 4-2 defeat at Manchester United, a result that condemned Blackpool to relegation back to the npower Championship.
Varney, who spent the 2009/10 season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, has made 15 appearances for Derby since his 2008 move from Charlton Athletic, scoring once.
